In March of 2014, the City of Bacolod, Philippines, joined the rest of the world in the global celebration of the Earth Hour. That celebration was highlighted in a ceremony held at the SM Mega Mall.
This March 28, will again, mark that observation world-wide from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and we hope that citizens of different countries around the world, their cities, offices, and communities will observe this Earth Hour and once again be reminded to conserve and protect the limited resources of the Earth.
Images below show the 2014 celebration in my hometown, Bacolod City, the capital of the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. Negros is an island that is considered as one of the richest island-provinces in the country.
Have a meaningful Earth Hour celebration everyone.

BACOLOD CITY CELEBRATED EARTH HOUR HEADED BY COUNCILOR ANN MARIE PALERMO AND VICE MAYOR GREG GASATAYA TOGETHER WITH THE OFFICERS OF SM BACOLOD AND SM SHOPPERS.
Today, Earthniversity joins the group of people, the citizens of the Earth, to reserve one (1) hour any moment today, March 28 until tomorrow March 29 as Earth Hour. You can think of any activity that will conserve Earth’s resources. If you are in the office, gather some friends to agree on turning off your air-conditioning units and a few lights an hour before you close the office.
In government institutions, 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon is the best time to turn off your aircon and lights. This is just to remind everybody that decreasing our fuel consumption can make a difference not only locally but globally. This practice can also decrease our fossil fuel footprints. If this Earth Hour will be done daily what a sustainable way it would be to conserve the resources of Mother Earth.
Parallel to this and in a long-term goal, perhaps our building designers, architects and engineers could advocate for the practice of Green Design. Simply speaking, Green Design is putting the architectural principles in designing a home or office that will maximize the use of natural light, building materials and many others.
I would like to invite our friends to consider this seriously in planning your future home or office building. Once, again, happy Earth Hour, and we hope that this Earth Hour will continue for the rest of your life. What a sustainable way to conserve the resources of Mother Earth and reserving some of these resources for the future generations.
Have a happy Earth Hour citizens of the world.
