About

earthniversityEarthniversity is taken from two English words which are Earth and University.  This was coined by its Founder, Henry C. Libo-on, as an avenue where the public can express their ideas and perceptions on the numerous issues and concerns about Environment and Sustainable Development.

Specifically, Earthniversity is a Blogsite where Earthniversity Team Members blog their experiences and provide suggestions on how to improve their communities with a clear understanding of the Environment and Sustainable Development Models adopted by the Earthniversity.

Earthniversity is also a Non-Formal Classroom where “lectures” in the form of articles covering important topics on the 4 Major Pillars of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development and the 7 Areas of Concerns will be presented. These are patterned after the Department of Environment Australia’s experience which will serve as Frame of Reference in every issue to be tackled about Environment and Sustainable Development.

Through its Facebook Page, The Earth Forum, Earthniversity Team Members, Followers, and website visitors can interact with the various Blogs, Issues and Concerns posted on the website, as well as present or submit their own topics or write-ups for publication or discussion.  The Earthniversity Team will evaluate the Blogs and Articles of guest Bloggers or Commenters before publication.

Specifically, our situations in Western Visayas will be our main focus.  Earthniversity will connect these situations or local experiences from the Micro-Level, to the Macro-Level – the country, Philippines,  the Asia-Pacific Region and South East Asia to the global scenarios.  Thus, reinvigorating the quotation – “think globally, act locally”.

Strategies and Targets will be formulated and Programs and Projects will be identified for possible implementation by various groups and contributors to the Earthniversity initiatives.

The principle of Sustainable Development which is “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (W. M. Adams, p.5) will be one of our frame of references in dealing with the global issues on Environment.

There will be Seven (7) Major Themes (updated 8/14/2014) using the Department of Environment Australia’s State of the Environment Report as Model. These Seven Themes are:

1. Built Environment (updated from Human Settlements)
2. Biodiversity
3. The Atmosphere
4. The Land
5. Inland Waters
6. Estuaries and the Sea
7. Natural and Cultural Heritage (updated from National Heritage)

These  7 Areas will be the initial points of discussion in this Forum.
