BRT: Helping Commuters Decrease Travel Time

The first time I learned about the term BRT, I just wondered how it’s going to change the transportation scenario, for example, in my country.  As one of the Third World countries in Asia, the Philippines has not done any Bus Rapid Transport System or BRT.  It is indeed, a strange thing for me to read about BRT for the first time.  A fact that most of you may laugh because this kind of a transport system is very common in your country but not in mine.

In the United States for example, there are BRT Projects that were implemented to improve the speed of traffic and therefore decrease travel time from one point to the next.  So, BRT is indeed, a necessity that transportation agencies in other countries around Asia, for example, should consider in planning and improving their Transport System.

Today, I would like to share this report from the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration, dated 2004, entitled:  Characteristics of Bus Rapid Transit For Decision-Making.

For me, this is a Best Practice, that any LGU or Local Government Units in the Third World Countries, specifically in Asia, should try to learn and think of the possibility of adopting this in their own LGU or country. Here is the link.
